Main Street Revitalization |
|
The revitalization of Hampstead’s Main Street is an important part of Hampstead’s future. The State Highway Administration has approved the funding for the Main Street Project with construction scheduled to start in June 2017.
Wayne Thomas has been involved with the revitalization of Hampstead’s Main Street since 1998. Wayne co-chaired the Main Street Comprehensive Plan and Revitalization Committee with Dennis Wertz in 1998, which created a plan for the revitalization of our Main Street. The committee was made up of Main Street residents, business owners and representatives from the State Highway Administration and the utility companies. The plan included new zoning classifications and recommendations for zoning changes as well as how our Main Street should look in the future. The plan was adopted by the Hampstead Town Council in 2000.
In 2006 Wayne Chaired the Main Street Committee, which reviewed the original plan making additional zoning changes and updating the plan with additional recommendations on the streetscape and amenities including street lights, benches, and sidewalks. Parts of the Main Street Plan was incorporated into the State’s reconstruction plan.
Wayne continues to work with the Town Council to tweak the plan. The plan will include street lights on Main Street for the entire length. Wayne is working to add fiber optic conduit to the Main Street Plan so that our Main Street businesses and residence will have access to ultra high frequency internet access.
Wayne Thomas has long supported a vision of our downtown as having the small town character that will make it a destination. A place where businesses want to locate. A place where people want to be. |
